Set around a turquoise-blue bay, the popular playground of Praia da Oura will get your holiday glowing from start to finish. Cocooned between well-heeled Villamoura and the bustling town of Albufeira, the town is only 2km from the latter, meaning you get the best of both worlds. This charmingly chaotic road stretches 2.5km from Praia da Oura, through Albufeira, to Montechoro. Crammed full of shops, bars and restaurants, this is the place to head for lively days and nights. Or for a complete contrast, stop by Albufeira's old quarter and seek out the main square, filled with quaint shops, paveside cafes and al fresco eateries. After dark, sit here with a zesty Caipirinha cocktail and watch the Inca's dancing and fire shows. Back at base, there's plenty to keep you on your toes should you tire of the beach life. Take to the water and try the range of water sports available including, parasailing, banana boat rides and jet skis. Keen walkers shouldn't miss the walk along the beach at low tide from here to Albufeira, though you'll need a head for heights to steer yourself around the cliff face paths at Praia Dos Aveiros. And if you can free up a Wednesday morning, the real gypsy market in Quarteira is a tangle of higgledy-piggledy stalls selling pretty cotton goods, pottery and handicrafts. Go along with your best bargaining skills and you're in for a treat.
