'Stylish Puerto Calero combines the elegance of a Cote d'Azur yacht club with the stunning lunar landscapes of Lanzarote's south west coast.'
Puerto Calero is Lanzarote at its most dashing. Named after the architect who created it, this stylish, purpose-built resort is based around one of the most modern marinas in the world. Sailors weigh anchor here to be calmed by the laid-back atmosphere and to soak up the sun.
There's also a good range of amenities, including a couple of health spas, a dive centre, golf, squash, tennis, an art gallery and a museum dedicated to whales, dolphins and porpoises.
What there isn't though is a beach. But just down the coast there are the fine white sands of Papagayo, and neighbouring Puerto Del Carmen also obliges, with good watersports to boot.
In the evening, Puerto Calero stays fairly low key and the favourite pastime is to sit in one of the waterfront eateries and enjoy some calamari or paella.
However, if you do crave some more lively nightlife, Puerto Del Carmen is once again the place to go. There you'll find plenty of karaoke bars, discos and clubs which keep the music pumping well into the early hours.
As for excursion ideas, just a few miles away from Puerto Calero is the Timanfaya National Park, home of Lanzarote's famous Fire Mountains. The lunar landscapes and lava-covered fields are breathtaking, and you can take a camel ride up the side of one of the volcanoes for amazing views across the unique and beautiful surroundings.
